Don’t Stay Home

Last week was our 4th wedding anniversary. We celebrated with a weekend of awesomeness and were barely home at all.  We had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants on our anniversary, and spent the rest of the night in, relaxing. Matt played in a hockey tournament that Saturday while my nieces and I were “festi-villans.”

We first stopped at the fire department’s Chicken BBQ fundraiser.

Unfortunately, we had to call on their services several years ago, so we always try to get to every fund raiser the fire department has.

Chicken, face painting, and fire truck rides galore. There was also a band playing country music, but my nieces weren’t really diggin’ country.

For dessert, we headed to the ice cream festival downtown.

We sampled ice cream, ate more great festival foods, watched ice cream eating contest, and the kids competed with each other in the inflatable obstacle course.

We shopped the vendors too, and the girls picked out some homemade doggie treats for Lilu because she couldn’t join in on the fun.

Sunday was another amazing day. We started early to The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in PA. It’s a beautiful church, the grounds are amazing, and if you’re interested in some Polish cuisine, check out their cafeteria and shop!

I had also entered a Radio 104.5 contest for free 311 tickets and a chance to meet the band, and I was lucky enough to win both! So we headed down to the Phily area for our meet and greet and concert. I was so excited! 311 happens to be my favorite band of all time.

Their music if so positive and uplifting, and it has truly helped me through some of the hardest times of my life, most notably my house fire.

Everyone in the band was so sweet and kind. To finally meet in person the band who have meant so much to me was beyond words.

I’ve seen them more times than I can count and have even been front row, but actually meeting and talking with them can’t ever be topped. The show was great, as usual, and they even played one of the songs I most related to during my house fire, “Omaha Stylee.”

It was an unbelievable end to a great weekend. And so I’ll leave you with my personal mantra from 311, “Stay positive and love your life.”
